TRIUMPH TR2 RESTORATION
The Adventures of Godot
A NOTE ON THE SUPPLIERS I HAVE USED
Racetech Thebarton Adelaide
Mike Barber is Racetech. I have known Mike for a long time when we worked together in previous lives. He is a quality tradesman who will get things done with no fuss. He does a lot of defence work as well as auto work and specialises in steering parts in particular as we both worked for the principle supplier of steering columns to the Australian auto industry when it existed. I have put a link to he web site below if you think he can help you.
Kilmartin Sheet Metal of Delacombe Victoria Australia
I have purchased floor panels, battery box, sills and front guard repair panels from them. I was fortunate that I lived a few kilometres away so could visit in person and have a chat. An old style sheet metal store that focusses mainly on the big Healeys but produce excellent parts. I have had no issues with using any parts bought for Kilmartin and would recommend them to anyone. They service US and European markets. Unfortunately Kilmartin is no longer with us as the brothers wanted to retire and couldn't get anyone to buy the business. If I was still living in Ballarat I would have seriously considered it but alas it was not to be.
Little British Car Company US
I have been using these guys more recently and I generally found them to be helpful and the parts received have been good. No issues and I will continue to use them but just be careful about buying product for right hand drive cars as some items are not interchangeable. Note that they sell Moss Motors parts at a discount. Not sure how that works.....
Moss Motors
I used these guys a fair bit earlier on. Tend to be expensive. I have purchased the B-pillars from Moss so there are certainly quality issues but we did have a conversation at the time with no real resolution. I prefer the Little British Car Company even though I am sure the suppliers in many cases are the same but in the end it is all about service.
Rimmer Brothers
I did buy quite a few items from Rimmer Brothers when I was rebuilding the body and the quality of the product to be woeful and as a rule cost me a lot of time and money that made me regret the purchase. I also bought a rack and pinion conversion on special but never received the discount even after specifically asking if I qualified and following up after the purchase with reference to the emails I received confirming the discount. When I received the product where was about 2 pages of instructions on the fitting which I could make no sense of. As I spent about 12 years as a steering column engineer in the automotive industry I found this to be interesting to say the least, When I questioned the quality of the information I was sent a 12 page MOSS MOTORS document that actually explained what I needed to do. I had to take the steering column to a machinist friend to get the bush inserted correctly because the fit was totally wrong and jammed the shaft on the steering column. I also ignored the instruction on mounting to the firewall and developed my own solution.
There are other comments in the door rebuild regarding the quality of these parts and the service response is atrocious.
DO NOT USE THESE GUYS, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TRY SOMEONE ELSE
Mikutta Blast - Adelaide South Australia
I have used these guys to blast my tub but they didn't want to know me when I wanted to contact them regarding paint. If you have a professionally restored car or want that done certainly worth a look but make sure you have a healthy bank balance first. Certainly recommended for blasting if you live in the area.
Alan Smith Trimmer
Alan is a brilliant trimmer but unfortunately had serious health issues when I contacted him to do my car. I was happy to do most of the work and I bought pre-covered panels through The Little British Car Co but needed some one for tricking bits such as dash and seats. He recommended another guys who was OK for the most part but failed miserably when I wanted the top pf the door trim done. In the end I took it to Alan who fixed up this issue and tidied up a couple of others int he process without charging me the earth. He is still operating but he is another bloke that will be sadly missed when he retires.
